Overview of Reporting Services SharePoint Integration

Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Reporting Services is a server-based reporting platform for creating and running reports that contain data from relational and multidimensional data sources. By installing the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Reporting Services Add-in for SharePoint 2010 Products, you can integrate a Reporting Services report server with SharePoint products for report authoring and storage. You can use the document management and collaboration features of SharePoint to simplify how you share, secure, manage, and use reports throughout your organization.

What's New

The new Reporting Services add-in, when combined with SQL Server 2008 R2 Reporting Services, adds support for new features including multiple SharePoint zones, support of right -to-left Arabic and Hebrew character sets and support for the SharePoint Unified Logging Service (ULS). These features require the integration of SharePoint 2010 with a Report Server instance in SharePoint integrated mode.

With this add-in alone Microsoft Access users can render reports without a SharePoint connection to a Report Server instance in SharePoint integrated mode. This is also called "local" mode. For information on these topics and others, see What's New with SharePoint Integration.
